AS2:Task One – Market and Target Audience Research

Five existing products that are similar to mine (Lucozade Sport):

1. Powerade - My advert consists of two Wayne Rooney's going head to head with each other in a game of football, one of them is drinking water and the other powerade. First of all the Rooney drinking the powerade wins the ball and heads for the goal and scores. The next clip shows the Rooney that drunk the water running ahead of the other Rooney to score. Then finally it shows the Powerade Rooney getting past the other Rooney one last time to score. Then you see the water Rooney on the floor and tired, the Powerade Rooney helps him up and smiles whilst giving him a bottle of powerade. The form of advert for this advert is standalone. The style for this advert is surrealism, as it show Rooney play against himself, which could never happen in real life. It uses many shot types and camera movements in the advert, to show the action between them, such as at the beginning it uses a wide shot to show both of them in there and the ball in the middle, once they get to the middle they have 6 different shots within 3 seconds, showing the one Rooney getting past the other. It has quite a surreal sound in my opinion, which matches the surreal theme of the advert. The fact that it has Rooney playing against himself would make this advert memorable to football fans (mainly either manchester united or england fans) as they will like and be a fan of Rooney and as he is your idle you will remember your advert. It makes it appealing as if the product is good enough for a professional athlete who is one of the best, then the target audience (regular sport athletes) will thing its good enough for them. It is suitable for the target audience of athletes / active people as a famous athlete is using the product, who may be an idle to some of those people it may make them want to go and buy that product. Some people may find it offensive as the main character is topless, and is objectifying the male form. Plus if it was a female performer who was topless there most likely would be many complaints.

2. Gatorade - This advert shows the 'Gators' american football team getting beat and shot of their players all tired and sweating, then it turns out it was a scientist watching it on tv. Then it comes to him making up a drink and when he pours it into a beaker it becomes a glass bottle with 'gatorade' on it, in the hands of the 'Gators' players. They then play a game and they end up winning a game and everyone starts cheering even the crowd. It then shows one of the players dipping a keg full of gatorade over what looks like the teams manager. It then takes you to all the other sports such as basketball, tennis, american football again and then ends on someone drinking it whilst running up some stands. The form for this advert is a stand alone. The style for this advert is a realism advert as it is all clips of major sporting events that actually happened. It has many different camera angles ranging from close ups, far out shots, zoomed in ones, all on different things, either the atheletes, the crowd or the drink itself. The song that is assosciated with this advert is James Bugg - Lightning Bolt. The thing that makes this advert memouroble is the fact that it uses real clips of ocations that actually happened and i feel the song with it is catchey. The thing that makes the product appealing is the fact that actual atheletes have used it in major sporting events. It is suitable for the target audience as it is a sports drink and the advert is realting that to famous sporting moments.

3. Oasis - In this advert it started at the outside of the dinner showing their car, then to the two main characters in a dinner. It shows the waitress handing them two glasses of water, but the girl turned her down for two bottles of oasis. She then notices on a news paper that the cactus man was wanted for kidnapping the girl, they then end up runnign to the car and drive off, as the waitress had called the cops, who then shows up. It then shows them getting away, whilst drinking some oasis. The form of this advert is a series as there are a couple of cactus kid adverts for oasis as it tells you a story of the couple. The style for this advert is surrealism as there is no such thing as a cactus man. In the first couple of shots they angle the camera from a low angle facing upwards. The time between the scene then gets shorters as it becomes a chace scene and then the final scene is them in the car drinking oasis getting away. It plays a quite little angelic tune in the background of everyone talking throughout the advert. The fact that the main character is a cactus is pretty memouroble and is the main point of the advert. It makes the product appealing as it shows the main character who is a cactus (which are known to like water) not wanting to drink water but prefers to drink oasis. It is suitable as it is saying it is just if not more benefitcial for you than water but tastes much better, so it is targeting the people who dont like water.

4. Fuit Shoot - For the first couple of scenes it shows you the children collecting random stuff from around the house including bike wheels, a dog house, satalite and a fire extinguisher. It then shows the young girl actresses dad walk outside to see what the children are getting up to. As he walks outside he notices his daughter making up a jug of juice for her and her friends by pouring the robinsons fruit shoot into a jug of water. The dad then looks astonished at what they are making, which it a rocket ship which has been made up of stuff from around the house. The final scene of the clip shows the rocket taking off whcih is then followed by the prduct taking up the screen and their slogan 'fuel your imagination'. The form for this advert is humor as it shows a normal group of children collecting random stuff to build a rocketship and once the dad comes out, his reaction may make some children laugh as he looks in awe and the children are all normal about it. The style of this advert is realism at the begininng as it it just ordinary things around the house but then it becomes surrealism as a group of children will most definatly be able to create a fully functioning rocket with things from around the house. There are a lot of different shots as it shows you the children collecting all the different things for the rocketship, also the speed between them at the beginning is very quick for the first four scenes as it shows them collectiong different materials. The music for this advert is a light, childish sounds as the advert is full of children creating a rocket. To make this advert memorable is the fact that a group of children was able to create a rocketship with materials that they had found around the house. The reason this advert makes the product appealing as it is saying it gives your the energy to do what you want and can build a rocketship if you was smart enough. It is suitable as the advert is full of children doing amazing stuff so the parents will buy to so theri children can do it and also the children will want it as they want to be able to do things like that. It may be a bit misleading as teh younger children may get the imprseeion of being able to actually do amazing things like build a rocket.

5. Evian - At the beginning of the advert it shows a statement made by the pcompany the product is made by, which then leads to a boom-box which is on the floor and on of the babys pressing the play button. The music then starts and cuts to a baby roller blading up to a ramp and over a metal fence, who then skate sover to a another baby who is dancing (again on roller blades). It then cuts to another group of babys who are surrounding one baby who is break-dancing. Then goes to three babys roller blading down a slow to end up jumping over six babys who are laying down next to eachother. It then skips to one baby going backwards on one leg, with four babies in the background. Then six babies skate up to a metal fence and jump and hang on the fence and do a backflip off of it. Then has five babies in the background spinning on their back, with one main one walking on their elbows. Then it has a sentence to try and tell you the benefit of drinking Evian as it is all natural and supports our 'body's youth'. After that it shows a bunch of babies on some steps dancing and throughout the middle a baby comes out jumping and slides down the metal rail and skids down and meets four new babies. It then has all them skating down a path with each other, and then there is all the babies cheering on one baby, who is skating backwards in and out of bottles of Evian and ends with that baby spinning and laughing. The form for this advert it Anti-realist narrative as babies of that age will not be able to skate in general, let alone as good as they are doing in this advert. The style for this advert is surrealism, for the same reasons as form. In this advert there and many different shot speeds and shot angles, when they are all doing tricks the shot speed goes quite quickly to get through them all, and there are a wide range of shot angles from close ups, wide shots, birds eye view and they have moving views when they follow the main characters of that shots action. The music in this advert is the song 'Rappers Delight' by The Sugarhill Gang. The fact that all the babies are doing really complicated tricks and breakdancing on roller blades makes this advert very memorable, and they also play a catchy and well known song, so that will also make it rememberable as people will be singing the song. The thing that makes this product appealing is the fact of how memorable the advert is, as of the dancing babies. This advert is suitable as it is saying it can be drunk at any age as it is just natural water which is good for your body, and also active people as it will rehydrate you, so by doing active babies in the advert it shows both of these benefits of the drink. Some people may say it is misleading as they may interpret that by allowing their children / babies to drink Evian that their child / baby will be as active as those babies are.
